What’s with the name of your blog?

It was a nightly ritual at summer camp to share the day’s “roses & thorns” before bed. “Roses” are the highlights of your day and “thorns” are the challenges or low points. Somewhere along the way we added “buds”, which are things that you’re looking forward to. There are also the mutant ones: “thorny roses” — life’s bittersweet realities — and the occasional “thorny bud” — things we’re nervous about in the future. Over the past few years, I’ve found that most things worth talking about fit into those categories & that’s how RTB was born.
