I’ve basically been on vacation since mid-August. There was Fredericksburg, then Palouse, then Boulder, then Savannah, and most recently Chincoteague Island. I miss D.C. when I’m away, but reconnecting with old friends in different cities has been a real gift.
Continuing the trend, this weekend I’m whisking myself away to Rhode Island! Two of my favorite people live there — Mike & Miriam. Kelsey’s coming into town and the one-and-only Katie Mulrey.
Katie, Miriam & I all went to college together, but we really became friends at SUMMER CAMP 2005. Katie was a counselor, Miriam was the Nature director & I was in charge of Arts & Crafts. Instant pals, we spent three months giggling, painting murals, hiking, and charming Tim-the-Cook into giving us nobakes. Our best week all summer was when Katie had staff duty and slept in our cabin. That week Miriam, Mary, Katie and I stayed up too late every night writing haikus.
That’s real.
